Apple plans to launch its high-end iPhone 17 model with a ‘slim’ design, will sit above the ‘Pro Max’ and cost even more

Apple’s iPhone design has become a bit stagnant over the past few years. The company simply made the cameras bigger, played with the construction materials, and called it a redesign. It seems that Apple engineers and designers are working hard to make a major change. That said, a new report has been released that highlights the potential launch of the iPhone 17 “Slim” next year with an entirely new design and form factor.

The ‘Slim’ iPhone comes with a smaller screen than the ‘Pro Max,’ but it will cost more

Information indicates that Apple is expected to work on a new variant of the iPhone 17, which will be significantly thinner than current models. The last time Apple introduced an entirely new iPhone design was in 2017 with the iPhone X. The company brought the all-screen design with Face ID replacing Touch ID on the iPhone 7 and a plethora of new features . The iPhone 17 “Slim” is expected to not only be the most premium, but also the most expensive smartphone the company has ever made.

If the company is planning a “major redesign,” as the source mentioned, it could add a few hundred dollars above the price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The device will also see a change in camera layout, resembling the rumored design of the Google Pixel 9. However, these are early reports at this point and we could see the company opting for a completely different route.

The report mentions that the cameras of the device will move away from the left side of the device towards the center and will be arranged horizontally. On the front, the iPhone 17 Slim will feature a narrower Dynamic Island for more screen real estate and minimized intrusive elements. Note that the screen size is not expected to increase at all since it will be between 6.1 and 6.7 inches, possibly replacing the iPhone 16 Plus in the lineup.

Internally, the device will be powered by the A19 Pro chip with an improved front camera. The information also mentions that the iPhone 17 Slim will eventually replace the iPhone 17 Plus, which means the company will continue to offer four variants of the iPhone 17. Prominent industry analyst Jeff Pu has already predicted the iPhone 17 Slim, and this is the first time we’ve heard details about the design and feature set of the device. Still, be sure to take the news with a grain of salt, as Apple could be testing a prototype of the device.
