Apple Is Reportedly Exploring Home Robots As Its Next Big Thing.

  • Apple is exploring home robots in an effort to create its next major product, Bloomberg reported.
  • It is working on a mobile robot that can track users and a robot with a smart display, according to the report.
  • The exploration of these devices comes after Apple abandoned its self-driving car project.

Apple is in the early stages of research into making home robots, a move that appears to be an effort to create its “next big thing” after abandoning its self-driving car project earlier this year, sources told Bloomberg close to the file.

Engineers are exploring the possibility of developing a robot that can follow users around their homes, Bloomberg reported. They are also exploring a tabletop home device that uses robotics to rotate the screen, a more advanced project than the mobile robot.

The idea behind the smart screen robot is to imitate the movement of a person’s head, for example reacting during a FaceTime session. It initially caught the attention of Apple’s top executives years ago, although they disagreed on whether to pursue the project, Bloomberg said.

Apple did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment before publication.
