Apology for terrorism: placed in pre-trial detention in Brest, Youcef A. will be judged on February 24, 2025

This Saturday evening, in a press release, the Brest prosecutor’s office indicates that Youcef A. admitted to being the author of the videos. According to the Brest prosecutor’s office, he explained “that his message was intended for the Algerian community and that it targeted opponents of the regime in place in Algeria.” Investigations by the Interdepartmental Judicial Police Service of the DIPN of Finistère established that older videos had been published at least since October 2024.

At the end of his police custody, Youcef A. was brought before the public prosecutor this afternoon. He is being prosecuted before the Brest criminal court under the deferred appearance procedure for acts of public apology for an act of terrorism committed by means of an online public communication service. He will appear on February 24, 2025. He faces a sentence of 7 years’ imprisonment and a fine of €100,000. While awaiting the hearing, he was remanded in custody.
