It’s safe to say that football, as a sport, has seen quite significant changes over the past 30 years.
In addition to things like the backpass rule and VAR, the relationships managers have with their players are also different.
And the perfect example of that is Tottenham, who have been in South Korea for pre-season under current boss Antonio Conte.
In a bid to prepare for the new campaign, Spurs players have been subjected to brutal training regimens, which have been posted on social media, leaving players hands-on-knees at the side of the pitch.
Conte and fitness trainer Gian Piero Ventura required players to complete 42 runs after a two-hour training session in 30-degree heat.
It’s a slightly different approach to that of ex-Tottenham blunderer Ossie Ardiles who Jurgen Klinsmann claims would give them money to go to the pub with!
“It was different in many ways,” the German said of his move to Tottenham from Monaco, which he joined from Inter Milan.
“In Italy after training you can have a club meal with wine; here it was a beer or two in the players’ lounge after the game.
“Although I’ve never seen in Italy what happened when we played a friendly match in Dublin.
“Ossie came into the dressing room after the game and handed us £20 or £30 each. He just said, “Have a good time.”
“So we all went to the pub. It was wonderful, the simplicity of getting together, making us work as hard as we could and enjoying everyone’s company.
