Anti-Semitic Protesters Chant “Heil Hitler” During Israel-Paraguay Football Match at Paris 2024 Olympics
A group of anti-Semitic protesters shamelessly chanted “Heil Hitler” in front of the Israeli men’s soccer team as they prepared to play Paraguay at the Paris Olympics this weekend.
The group made their presence unabashedly known from the stands by chanting hateful language and booing the Israeli team as they stood for their national anthem at the Parc des Princes on Saturday night.
Swarms of protesters were seen waving Palestinian flags, some even giving Nazi salutes during their hate-filled demonstration. Several people were also seen holding a large placard that read “Genocide Olympics.”
Anti-Israel protesters were eventually evicted from the stadium and no further disturbances were reported.
Paraguay beat Israel in the Group D match 4-2.
“During the men’s football match between Israel and Paraguay at the Parc des Princes on July 27, a banner with a political message was displayed and anti-Semitic gestures were made,” a Paris Olympics organizer told Sky News.
“Paris 2024 strongly condemns these acts. A complaint has been filed by Paris 2024, which is at the disposal of the authorities to assist in the investigation.”
This is the second time since the start of the Olympics that the Israeli football club has been confronted by protesters during a match.
The team was met with the same display of hatred last Wednesday when they faced Mali.
Protesters at Israel’s match against Mali were seen waving Palestinian flags while booing and whistling their anthem.
After their match against Mali, Israeli team head coach Guy Luzon said that the protests against his team and Israel would only be used as fuel to improve their performance on the field.
“We need to organize the loudest possible protests,” Luzon told Ynet News. “They will force us to make more efforts.”
The horrific displays of anti-Semitism come as French police have launched an investigation into death threats received by three Israeli athletes at the Olympics, according to Sky News.
Security concerns for the Israeli team remain a top priority for Olympic organizers as the country is weeks away from entering a 10-month war with Hamas.
Israeli athletes in Paris are being escorted to and from events by elite tactical units and are receiving 24-hour protection, officials told Sky News.
Israel’s internal security service, Shin Bet, is also helping to ensure the security of their compatriots and other Israeli diplomats attending the Games.
The Shin Bet reportedly has “full support for the measures taken by the French authorities,” a source told the outlet.
“This sends an important message to individuals and organizations that try to threaten athletes,” the source added.
To ensure the security of each country participating in the Olympic Games, France deploys 35,000 agents every day, and 45,000 were deployed for the opening ceremonies.
France also receives aid from 40 countries which have sent nearly 2,000 reinforcements.
On Thursday, Israel’s National Cyber Directorate said it had discovered that Iranian hackers were creating fake social media channels to post personal information about members of the Israeli delegation to the Paris Olympics and sending them threatening messages, according to Ynet News.
On the same day, Israel’s foreign minister warned his French counterpart of a possible Iranian-backed plot to target Israeli athletes and tourists during the Games.
In response to the allegations, the Iranian mission to the United Nations said in a statement that “terrorist acts have no place in the principles of resistance groups; lies and deception cannot reverse the roles of the complainant and the accused.”
Israeli athletes have been the targets of terrorist attacks during the Olympics in the past.
Eleven Israeli athletes and a German policeman were killed by Palestinian terrorists at the 1972 Munich Games.
