Anthony Joshua will look like a completely different fighter after working with Robert Garcia according to the current world champion who works with the trainer

Anthony Joshua needs to make some major adjustments if he wants revenge against Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch and his new manager Robert Garcia might be the right person to help him.

In the first fight last September, Usyk masterfully defeated Joshua in twelve rounds to win the WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight titles.

Since then, Joshua has incorporated the experienced Robert Garcia into his practice squad.

In the aftermath, Joshua was widely criticized for this game plan of trying to take out one of the most technically gifted boxers in the world in Usyk.

In an attempt to reverse this outcome, Joshua made drastic changes ahead of the August 20 rematch, moving his side to Loughborough.

He fired his longtime manager Rob McCracken and he has since hired Angel Fernandez and more specifically Robert Garcia.

Garcia has great experience after winning The Ring Magazine ‘Trainer of the Year’ in 2011 and he has guided 14 fighters to world titles, although none of them have been heavyweights.

One of those title holders is Jesse Rodriguez Franco, who is currently the youngest active world champion at 22, and he’s worked with Garcia since he was 15.

During negotiations for Garcia to join Joshua’s side, one of his only stipulations was that he could be around for Rodriguez’s next fight, as he faces Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on Saturday night.

Rodriguez (left) and his brother Joshua Franco (right) are both well aware of the qualities of their coach, Robert Garcia, who guided them both to world titles.

According to Rodriguez, Joshua couldn’t have made a better decision when he took on Garcia as his new trainer and he thinks we’ll see a new fighter look when the Brit takes on Usyk in a rematch.

“Anthony Joshua will look like a completely different fighter.” Rodriguez told talkSPORT.

“The things that he misses, Robert Garcia will be able to spot and fix, so Joshua will look more like a complete fighter in the rematch.

“Having Robert Garcia in your corner feels good because he was a champion of the sport. So when his fighters go through that, he knows exactly what to tell them.

“He always has the best game plans and you already go there with an advantage with the perfect game plan.”

Usyk and Joshua came face to face for the first time since their first fight at Tuesday’s press conference in Saudi Arabia

Joshua himself seems confident he has learned from his mistakes and is ready to right the wrongs of the first fight.

“The fight with Usyk, he broke my ass for a few rounds,” Joshua said at Tuesday’s press conference. “I have to accept this loss as a man, but I hold myself accountable and I’m someone who can admit when I’m wrong and hold my head up high when I’m right.

“What’s great is that I have a second chance. What got me into boxing in the first place, when I was young I struggled a bit from time to time and was blessed with a second chance and found the boxing and took it with both hands.

“So if you know me and my story, you know I’m the comeback king, you can put me down but it’s hard to hold me back.”
