Anthony Joshua locks eyes on Tyson Fury as main target and will continue to ‘roll’ his opponents to reach him

Anthony Joshua has told talkSPORT that a fight against Tyson Fury remains his main priority.

The Watford powerhouse is expected to return to the ring on September 20 or 21 at Wembley Stadium and has four names on the shortlist to be his next opponent.

Joshua recently revealed to talkSPORT that whoever puts in the best performance between Deontay Wilder vs. Zhilei Zhang and Filip Hrgovic vs. Daniel Dubois on the Matchroom vs. Queensberry 5-on-5 card on June 1 will be the favorite to box him next.

The fight Joshua really wants is the long-awaited British vs. Fury showdown, but he may have to wait a little longer before that comes to fruition.

Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have a two-way rematch clause tied to the deal for their undisputed May 18 clash, meaning Joshua will have to remain patient.

Provided AJ gets his hand raised in his next fight and Fury wins both fights against Usyk, then the path will be clear for them to finally face each other.

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, recently named Fury vs. Joshua among the top three fights he wants to stage.

And according to Joshua, they’re both on the “same page” when it comes to this fight.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Jon Jackson ahead of the Formula E Monaco E-Prix, he said: “We’re on the same page and he’s on the same page as the fans as well.

“He’s trying to give what the fans want, I know they want that big fight with Tyson Fury and he’s working towards it.

“But Fury has his obligations with Oleksandr Usyk, so I have to make sure I stay focused and disciplined, continue to take on my opponents so that I can get closer and closer to having the opportunity to fight against Tyson Fury.”

AJ then looked at SE Alalshikh’s plans for his next fight.

“On June 1, in Saudi Arabia, they will have the 5 against 5 card,” remembers Joshua.

Heavyweight star Anthony Joshua gives his prediction for the highly anticipated fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

“You have Filip Hrgovic against Daniel Dubois, and you have Zhilei Zhang against Deontay Wilder.

“So, provided one of them looks good – whoever looks the best, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh told me, ‘I want you to fight him.’

“What he’s saying is, ‘In the future, I want people to look back at your track record and say you competed against the best.’

“I said, ‘Now you speak my language.’

“So, out of this pool, I think he’s the one I’m going to fight, one of them.”
