Anthony Joshua gives inspiring advice to London Marathon runner after admitting he struggled to finish the race… as the boxing legend handed out Lucozade and motivated participants.

  • Joshua was on duty in the capital cheering on the runners from the side of the course.
  • He could be seen exchanging words with a runner who was struggling
  • The Briton is still waiting to know who his next opponent will be in the ring

With over 50,000 runners taking part in this historic race around the English capital, some understandably found the race more difficult than others and may have needed a little encouragement.

From Sir Jim Ratcliffe walking the 26.2 mile course and heading to Wembley for Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry to filming Eastenders on the course, a number of famous faces were present, but not all participated in the race.

Heavyweight boxer Joshua, still riding the crest of the wave after his stunning knockout victory over Francis Ngannou in March, was courseside as a sponsor as he handed out drinks and chatted with runners.

The Brit could be seen donning a dark blue Lucozade hoodie, with a video shared by the drinks brand showing him giving some advice to a runner on how to reach the end of the race.

“Listen, this is where you dig deep,” AJ can be seen telling a runner as he hugs the competitor, who is dressed entirely in orange.

“I’m just mentally exploded,” replies the runner.

Joshua continues: “Yeah, but listen. If you know you’re mentally shattered, that’s okay. It’s all in the head, right? So if you feel like you’re exploding, rebuild now.

‘Give a quick recap, two minute walk, finish the run bro. Control your thoughts, control your mind. Let’s go.’

The runner, who can be seen gratefully receiving a cup of Lucozade from Joshua, then punches the heavy weight and continues running.

A number of other competitors also stopped to hear some words of wisdom from the two-time world champion.

Joshua continues to wait to find out his next in-ring opponent, and he is expected to face the winner of Tyson Fury’s unification fight against Oleksandr Usyk.

The two heavyweights will face off in Saudi Arabia on May 18, with Fury set to make “some adjustments” for the fight as he looks to bounce back from a close victory over Ngannou.

The Briton surpassed the former MMA star in October, leading fans to ask him to be wary when he faces Usyk, ahead of a potential clash for the ages against Joshua to follow.
