Anthony Duclair des Islanders takes leave

Insular winger Anthony Duclair is indefinitely after taking personal leave from the club, head coach Patrick Roy Take journalists today (including Stefen Rosner from NHL.com).

Duclair was not for this morning practice. After the Isles abandoned a 4-1 match against Lightning on Tuesday to extend their sequence without six victory, Roy described the performance of post-match Duclair “adorable“And said he was”lucky to be in programming.“Today, Roy told the media that”Anthony and I had a very good conversation, very positive, and Anthony asked me to take a little time and think. So, obviously, I accepted this, and we will give him all the time he needs.“”

The 29-year-old was simply not meshed in Long Island and with Roy, his head coach of his junior days with the ramparts of Quebec. There was an agreement of $ 14 million over four years last summer to join the islands on the opening day of the Free Agency and even started the year on the upper line alongside Mathew Barzal And BO HORVAT. A leg injury suffered in his fifth game of the season has gone into his campaign, keeping him on the sidelines for two months. Horvat today deduced that Duclair had also undergone an injury to the groin – either on the initial game, or during its recovery today – that has been bothering it since its return.

Consequently, Duclair’s production was the worst of his career, even during the ranking per game. He only scored 7-4-11 to 44 games with a note of -15, the worst among the Icelanders attackers, while shadow an average of more than 15 minutes per match.

Now in his 11th NHL season, Duclair has shown the ability to be a solid complementary top-six winger when it is given other offensive weapons with which playing. He excelled in the section in a high-end role for the Lightning last season after having acquired it from the Sharks on the deadline, displaying 8-7-15 in just 17 games. He was withdrawn from three years from a campaign of 31 career goals in Florida, sharing the time of the first and second lines of the Panthers that year. New York hoped to be able to provide this level of production in a front line role, but injuries – not only for him, but for their shallow group of high -level offensive talents – removed this dream, at least for 2024-25.

With three years in his agreement, a reset in the relationship between organization and Duclair is essential. He wears a complete non-exchange clause during the 2025-26 campaign, although from July 1, 2026, Duclair can only block a move to 16 teams.

With eight games to do in the Icelanders season and their chances of 2% playoff series (by MoneyPuck), it goes without saying that Duclair is made for the year. This should mean extensive opportunities of the first six for wingers such as Simon Holmström And Maxim Tsyplakov During the last two weeks of the campaign.
