Meanwhile, a new Gallup poll released Friday shows that, compared to other presidents at this point in his term, Biden, 81, is the least popular commander in chief of the past seven decades.

Ranking below even Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter – who were extremely unpopular at the end of their fourth year in office, Biden ranks at 38.7% job approval through the first quarter of 2024.

In contrast, Trump had an approval rating of 46.8% at this point in his presidency. Nixon and Carter had higher ratings than Biden at this point in their respective presidencies, with 53.7% and 47.7% approval.

The CNN/SSRS poll released Sunday shows that among 1,212 Americans surveyed, 60% disapprove of Biden’s job as president.

According to the results of two other polls conducted in January 2024 and October 2023 via CNN/SSRS, Trump maintained his support among registered voters at 49%, compared to 45% for the president.

The hypothetical August 2023 general election – more than a year before Election Day in November – showed Trump and Biden separated by just one percentage point (47% to 46%).

Both Trump and Biden have already secured the number of delegates their respective parties need to secure the nomination in 2024. That means the United States is on track for a 2020 rematch that most voters said They didn’t want to, according to several polls.

After the summer conventions, both men will consolidate their presidential nominations and embark on a heated race for a seat behind the Resolute Desk.

In the entire history of Gallup polling, no president has returned to the White House for a second term with approval ratings as low as Biden’s. His ranking is in the top 12 percent of presidential terms dating back to 1945.
