The angels made several movements on the list this afternoon, selecting Shaun AndersonContract and reminder Matthew Lugo from triple-a. To make room on the active list, they optionized Ryan Johnson at High-A and placed Gustavo Campero On the 10 -day injured list. In addition, they gave way to Anderson on the list of 40 men by transferring Ben Joyce in the 60 days there.
Anderson, 30, signed a minor league agreement with the angels during the offseason. From 2019 to 22, the right -hander launched 135 2/3 rounds on 63 games (16 departures) for five different teams: the Giants, the Twins, the Orioles, the Padres and the Blue Jays. He struggled to limit Baserunners or break them, by presenting an MPM of 5.84 and 5.24 Siera. He then passed the first half of the 2023 campaign as a starter for the Kia Tigers of the KBO. He launched well, setting up an MPM of 3.76 and 3.83 FIP in 14 departures, but lost his job halfway from the season against another former big fever, Thomas Pannone. After finishing 2023 in the system of minor phillie leagues and played briefly in the Mexican league in early 2024, Anderson returned to the majors, launching for the Rangers and the Marlins last season. It didn’t go well. He abandoned 19 points (15 deserved) out of 16 1/3 of sleeves, withdrawing only 10 of the 85 strikers he faced. Nevertheless, the angels saw something to love in his arm. He has an MPM of 5.06 and 5.77 FIP in seven departures at Triple-A this season, and he will probably offer a little depth to an enclosure of the lifters which has been a disaster in recent times.
Lugo, 24 today, has been added to the list of 40 men in the off -season to protect it from the draft of rule 5, but this marks its first promotion to major leagues; He will make his debut in MLB as soon as he is in a match. A second round choice by the Red Sox in 2019, he was exchanged in the angels before the deadline last summer as part of the return for Luis GarcĂa. Interestingly, he is now the third player of this apparently minor business to appear for the angels, after the first basic player Niko Kavadas and right -handed lift Ryan Zeferjahnwhich is currently in the Big League enclosure. Initially inner field player, Lugo started playing the outside field in 2023 and ’24 and played exclusively Center Center Field this season. He has trouble the plate this year, with only one .656 ops and 66 WRC +, but he showed impressive power last season, displaying an isolated power of .291 between double and triple-a. With injured Campero, he will take over as a emergency voltiseur on the bench.
Campero, 27, has only made five games for the angels this season before injuring their ankle during a blow. It was placed on the 10 -day IL, retroactive on Wednesday, with inflammation of the left ankle. The fact that the injury was diagnosed as an inflammation seems to be a good sign that Campero will not miss too much time. Although he had a .605 OPS and 71 WRC + in 18 Big League Mames, he crushed the shots of minor leagues throughout his career. With Mike Trout On the IL, the angels are short of depth of field, they therefore hope that Campero will be able to return to the field before too long.
Johnson, 22, was still another prospect that the Angels promoted shocking quickly. The team took him during the second compensatory round of the draft (74th in total) last summer, and he made his debut in the big league on the day of opening 2025. There is no doubt that he promised, as evidenced by his 3.35 Siera and 3.60 XERA through 14 appearances. However, he also abandoned 15 points (12 deserved) out of 24 strokes, including six points and nine safe in his last four appearances. There is no doubt that he could benefit from a certain time in the minor leagues. It is not every day that you see a player optional in the big leagues up to High-A, but there again, it is not every day that you see a player making his debut in the majors before launching a single match in the minor leagues.
Last point but not the least is Joyce’s news. The 24 -year -old with a quick three -digit ball has not launched more than a month. In mid-April, he went in 15 days with what the angels initially believed to be a relatively minor inflammation. The team has not offered an update, but it is now not eligible to come back for another month. In other words, in any case, the word “minor” is no longer a specific descriptor of his injury. According to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, Joyce tried to launch earlier in the week, but her shoulder “still didn’t feel well”. He will go for a more in -depth assessment next week. The Sam Blum of athletics adds that Joyce is “obviously worried”, although Blum underlines the point that there will be no official update until Joyce meets a doctor. He is still worrying to hear that a hard launched launcher has undergone a setback, but the angels hope that his promising firefighter will be able to avoid surgery and return to the bump later this season.
