Angel Reese Makes History With Second Straight 20-Rebound Night

Angel Reese continues to make history.

The WNBA Rookie of the Year candidate had another 20-rebound game for the Chicago Sky in a tight 82-80 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Friday night.

Reese finished with 13 points and 20 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, more rebounds than any of his other teammates had.

According to ESPN, she became the first WNBA player to record 20 rebounds in back-to-back games, and the first WNBA or NBA rookie to accomplish the feat since Shaquille O’Neal with the Magic in 1993.

Tina Charles is the only other WNBA player to have multiple 20-rebound games in a rookie season, having done so in 2010.

The LSU alumnus shot 3-of-12 from the field, but converted an efficient 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

She also recorded two blocks in the evening.

Reese set a WNBA record of 15 consecutive double-doubles earlier this season and has now recorded her fifth in a row.

The Maryland native entered the night’s game averaging 13.6 points and 12.3 rebounds on the season.

Reese, who is battling Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark for the rookie of the year award, showcased her prowess on the glass.

Reese now has 352 total rebounds this season, which is 12th most rebounds of all time in a single WNBA campaign.

She is now 52 behind Sylvia Fowles’ record of 404 boards ripped out in 2018.

At Reese’s current pace, she’ll likely break that record, given that there are still 12 games left in the season.

During that record-breaking year, Fowles averaged 11.9 boards per game, a record Reese is also on pace to break.

Reese and the Sky fell to 11-17 on the year with the loss, but if the season ended today, they would have the eighth and final playoff spot.
