On Sunday, one day after Indiana fever beat the Chicago sky to open the WNBA 2025 season, the League announced an investigation into alleged racial comments made by Gainbridge Fieldhouse fans. These comments were directed against Angel Reese, according to the Associated Press. Tuesday, Reese made his first public comments on the situation.
Addressing the media during the practice of the sky, Reese spoke of the quantity she appreciated the support she received from the team, the league and others.
“Obviously, there is no room in this league for this,” said Reese. “I think that the WNBA, our team, our organization did an excellent job by supporting me. I had the communication of everyone, from so many people of this league … By going through all this process, it could happen to me. It could happen to anyone. I think they did a great job by supporting us.”
When the WNBA was specifically asked for an investigation so quickly, Reese expressed his opinion that each player in the league deserves to be treated with respect.
“They understand that it is priority,” said the former LSU star. “Obviously, there is no room for that. I think that two days before going out (the No Hate No Speech initiative). Obviously, the women of this league know it and they know that there is no space in there. I believe that each player of this league deserves to be treated with respect and wants to go to work and obviously, they will respond and have an excellent environment in which they need.”
Caitlin Clark had a similar message on Monday when asked for the situation, condemning the language that would have used and expressed his confidence in the WNBA to do the right thing with the investigation.
Reese collected 12 points and 17 rebounds in the defeat of 93-58 of his team on Saturday.
