Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold among Liverpool stars to congratulate the women’s team on securing promotion to the Women’s Super League

Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were among Liverpool stars to congratulate the club’s women’s team after confirming their return to the Women’s Super League.

An emphatic 4-2 victory at Bristol City, who are second in the Women’s Championship, saw Liverpool climb back into the WSL with two games to play.

Liverpool are back in the big time

Liverpool captain Niamh Fahey gave the away side an early lead at Ashton Gate, before Aggie Beever-Jones called the hosts to order a minute later.

Jasmine Matthews put Liverpool 2-1 up moments before half-time, with Katie Stengel adding a third just before the hour mark.

Bristol City threatened a comeback with Abi Harrison’s 15th goal of the season but Liverpudlian Missy Bo Kearns ended the tie with a fourth goal.

It was a fantastic campaign from Matt Beard’s side, who won 15 out of 20 games, losing just once. They have scored 42 times and conceded just eight.

Now, after a two-year absence, Liverpool, who were relegated in the 2019/20 season, are back in the big time.

And James Milner and Andy Robertson applauded their efforts.

Liverpool’s only defeat of the season came on Matchday 1 against London City, but since then they have been near perfect

On Twitter, left-back Robertson wrote: “Love it”.

And Milner said on Instagram: “Congratulations to @LiverpoolFCW on winning the @FAWomensChampionship and being promoted to @FAWSL.”

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold said in a video message: “Hi everyone, just wanted to send a quick message to congratulate everyone involved in LFC Women.

“An incredible achievement, you’ve done all the hard work so well this season and it’s amazing to see. So a big shout out to Matt and all the staff and all the players. Big thumbs up, thumbs up!”

The Reds will want to maintain their form, however, and end the season as strong as possible.

They end their home campaign on April 24 against fourth-placed Sheffield United.

The season then ends on May 1, which sees Liverpool take on Lewes.
