While most NFL fans have been focused on how the Chiefs will improve their wide receiver position and handle offseason player departures, the back-to-back world champions pulled off another sneaky move during the build-up to the 2024 season.

Andy Reid’s team signed a veteran QB with a Super Bowl pedigree.

Patrick Mahomes will be backed up by Carson Wentz in 2024, after Kansas City signed the 31-year-old veteran to a one-year deal.

“He’s going to be the Nick Foles of the Chiefs and win their third place,” one fan said.

“This will definitely help them get over the hump,” a second fan joked.

“It’s over for Mahomes,” a third fan also joked.

It wasn’t long ago that Wentz was one of the hottest names in the NFL.

Now, the former No. 2 overall pick is poised to become an insurance QB for the Chiefs as they contend for three straight world titles.

Wentz attended North Dakota State and was a franchise-changing selection by Philadelphia in 2016.

He made one Pro Bowl and finished third in MVP voting in 2017.

But his early big numbers quickly faded, with Wentz losing his job and starting to bounce around in the NFL.

After spending 2016-2020 in Philadelphia, he played for Indianapolis, Washington and the Los Angeles Rams.

Wentz is 47-45-1 as a starter with 22,292 passing yards, 153 touchdowns and 67 interceptions.

He will bring composure and experience to the Chiefs as they attempt to defend their Super Bowl title.

And if Mahomes needs to take a game, Wentz will be ready to step in, seven years into being one of the best QBs in the sport.

Kansas City stayed busy in 2024 after winning Super Bowl LVIII against San Francisco in Las Vegas.

While Taylor Swift spent time with Travis Kelce, the Chiefs signed former Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit.
