TL;DR

  • Google is rolling out Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1 update.
  • Eligible devices include: Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, 8a and Pixel Tablet series
  • If you are already registered for the beta program, you do not need to do anything.

Just a week ago, Google unveiled Android 15 Quarterly Platform Release 1 (QPR1) beta 1. The company didn’t provide a release date at the time, but suggested it would arrive sooner than expected. The update has now started rolling out to Pixel devices.

If you’re unfamiliar with how Google’s operating system updates work, the company typically operates on a quarterly release schedule, as suggested by the QPR label. For example, Google typically releases a major operating system update, like Android 15, and then follows it up with a QPR1, QPR2, and QPR3 update. QPR betas are more stable than developer previews and are often suitable for general use.

The QPR1 beta launch announced today is expected to result in a stable release in a few months. This means that the stable version of this update will likely arrive around December as a Feature Drop.

Of course, you will need to be part of the beta program to get this new update. If you are already a member, you don’t need to do anything as you will receive the update automatically. For those who want to join the program, you will need to head over to google.com/android/beta to see if your device is eligible and sign up.

However, if you want to get the final stable public version of Android 15, you’ll need to opt out of the beta program. You can do this without having to wipe your data by following the instructions we discussed in our article last week.

Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1 (AP41.240726.009) arrives alongside the August security patch. Google says that Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, and Pixel Tablet series devices are all eligible.
