Andrew Flintoff criticized the BBC for having treated it “ like a piece of meat ” in order to earn more viewers before its Top Gear car accident that changed their life in 2022.
The legend of the Cricket Flintoff, 47, resumed the tasks of Top Gear in early 2019 and had almost four years in the program before his horror accident in December 2022 let him fight for his life.
He suffered serious facial injuries and remained far from the public’s eyes for months before returning to cricket as a coach at the end of the summer of 2023.
Now, more than two years after his accident, Flintoff has opened his doors on his stay on Top Gear for his new Disney + documentary which will be published in its entirety on Friday, and said that the BBC was always willing to push the limits of what was possible to improve visualization figures.
“This is the danger in which television falls – and I discovered the hard way, finally,” said Flintoff.
“Everyone wants more, everyone wants this thing that no one has seen before, everyone wants the greater blow. In some respects, it is: “Let us have this quasi-failure, because then it will obtain viewers”. Everything is a question of viewers. Still, always.

“And I should have been smarter on this subject, because I also learned that in sport … and I was just treated like a piece of meat.
“It’s television and sport, I think that’s where they are quite similar.
“You are just a commodity, a piece of meat.
Flintoff was involved in two accidents during the shooting of Top Gear before his December 2022 test, but managed to escape serious injuries on occasion.
He was not so lucky the third time and had to be transported by plane to the hospital before receiving treatment.
Top Gear was put on hold for a “predictable future” after the Flintoff accident and is not yet back, while former versatility in England received a payment of 9 million pounds from the BBC.
Flintoff has exposed his difficulties in the documentary, even admitting that he wanted to be dead in the aftermath of the accident after having feared that his “face had come off”.
His wife, Rachael, who shares three children with the ex-crick, also revealed that she had never seen someone so frightened “after being alongside Flintoff throughout his recovery.

Flintoff presented Top Gear alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, but said in the documentary that he barely speaks to McGuinness following his almost fatal accident.
However, he kissed the sport in which he prospered, after being welcomed in the configuration of England in the last 18 months.
Flintoff revealed that he had to be left ‘will leave my room’ when he first agreed to play a role as a coach with England, but he quickly settled after discussing Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Joe Root.
He has since been appointed head coach of the northern super chargers for the hundred and was placed in charge of the Lions of England during the winter as he seeks to develop the next generation of talent for the national team.
