Walnut – Bo Zheng is rushed into the swimming pool after increasing late to capture the 200 meter freestyle. The Christian swimmer of the discovery of Anaheim wanted to protect his painful arm for an exhausting race.
The girls of Valencia participated in three relays and four individual events, but still challenged for a CIF-SS finalist plaque despite the small program.
The CIF-SS Division 4 championships required a lot of grain from Zheng and Tigers, and both responded Thursday at Mount Sac.
Zheng swept away the 200 and 500 free free while Valencia ranked third in the team competition – only three points out of the second – to highlight the efforts of the County of Orange in the division.
With 50 yards on the left in the 200 free, Zheng rallied from third place to the touch of Blake Van Vooren of Country Country of almost three tenths of a second to win in 1 minute and 42.23 seconds.
Zheng returned to the 500 free and won another tight race to defend his Division 4 title. He was ahead of Fast Club’s teammate Yves Pan de Fairmont Prep of about seven tenths of a second to finish in 4: 40.17.
“I just wanted to win,” said Zheng after 500. “Tomorrow, I still need to go to the doctor.”
Pan, a junior, took second place in Zheng for the second consecutive year. He touched 4: 40.85 while the Christian recruit of Pacifica, Ryan Ham, ranked third at 4: 48.74.
Valencia entered the free relay of 400 at the end of the end of second place in team points behind Aquinas and in front of Torrance.
The tiger consolation relay dropped almost six seconds by moving a place from its sowing to third, but the champion of the Empire League ranked third in the general stands.
Valencia collected 152 points to take the third behind Aquinas (155) and Torrance champion (170).
“We are very proud,” said Tigers coach Kiley Kendall. “We didn’t think we were going to be there (at the end).”
Valence underlined his meeting by winning the 200 free relay. The first year team Abigail Hernandez, from the second year Samantha Kwan, Junior Josephine Binondo and the Recruit Kendra Moyer had a time of 1: 47.69 to become the first relay of Tigers girls to win a section title.
The relay of the Valence mixture ranked third with a 2: 01.81.
Ocean View Morgan Carles finished third in the 100 free (53.11) and second on the back (59.68).
