Antioch – The prosecutors of Contra Costa charged a 51 -year -old man of two crimes after his 3 -year -old grandson accessed a firearm and fell by accident, according to the judicial archives.
Jamal Edward, from Antioch, received a notice to appear in court on June 3 to meet the criminal accusations of child abuse or inappropriate cruelty and storage of firearms, two crimes. Edward was not arrested, according to the files.
The deadly shooting took place on April 8. Police were called to a residence on Clearbrook Road off Lone Tree Way around 6 p.m. after the appellants reported a shooting in the distribution center. The boy died on the scene, police said at the time.
Police did not say exactly how the boy had accessed the weapon, but a spokesperson for the department implied that he was loose at home, calling him a “heartbreaking” incident.
