Tottenham won the Battle of the underperformants of the Premier League 1-0 Sunday to inflict another lamentable result on the Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim. James Maddison scored the only goal in 13 minutes while the Spurs moved over United in the table in 12th thanks to a third victory against the Red Devils this season.
The victory retained the pressure on the boss of Tottenham in fire, Ange Postcoglou, after leaving the two national cup competitions this month to go with their league position.
Amorim is not worried about his work
United is now in 15th, but enjoy a 12 -point cushion in the last three.
“The place in the table is my concern, I do not worry about me,” said Amorim, who has only won four of the 14 Premier League games since he took care of in November.
“I hate losing. This feeling is the worst. The rest I don’t think about.
“I understand my situation, my work, I am confident in my work and I just want to win matches.”
Tottenham’s first victory at home since November came in the middle of a spirit of revolt among their support.
Before kick -off and after the match, spurs fans again expressed their frustration towards the owners ENIC and President Daniel Levy.
A huge banner read “24 years old, 16 managers, 1 trophy – time for changing”, because an important contingent of the crowd has joined a demonstration calling for tax.
However, the Postcoglou atmosphere was lifted before kick -off because it was able to welcome a multitude of regulars from the first team that were sidelined by an injury.
Back of “quality players”
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made his first appearance since November. Maddison returned to the starting program, while Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert were on the bench.
“These are quality players. We have had it quite difficult in the past two and a half months, “said postcoglou. “It was important for us to win and win a little traction.
“I certainly think that there is still a massive opportunity for us in this back half of the season and I hope that today is the start of this.”
United has their own injury problems with Amad Diallo by joining Lisandro Martinez on the sidelines for the rest of the season and Kobbie Mainso has excluded for a month.
Amorim had to appoint eight adolescents among his nine replacements, forcing Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee to start together in advance after the two were overlooked for the last United Championship match – a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace.
Hojlund had the first chance when he pulled too close to Vicario before the Italian started left to deny Alejandro Garnacho.
Instead, the Spurs obtained the opener while the Onana could only Parry in Parry Lucas Bergvall in the path of Maddison, who exploited an empty net for his 10th goal of the season.
United should have been at least at half-time while Garnacho flambé on a glorious occasion with just Vicario to beat after being chosen by Bruno Fernandes.
Vicario continued to frustrate Garnacho with another beautiful backup after the break.
Zirkzee wasted a huge chance to equalize 20 minutes of time when the Dutch international led the crossroads of Mazraoui to have us with the gaping lens.
But United’s inability to put the ball in the net does not surprise.
Only the three best and Everton scored less than the 28 goals of United in 25 championship games this season.
At the other end, Onana kept visitors to the game by parking the powerful effort of Dejan Kulusevski.
But even the spurs’ fortune line could not be violated by the men of Amorim to allow Postocoglou to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
