Amid growing tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, Indian Embassy in Lebanon issues travel advisory

The Indian Embassy in Lebanon has issued a travel warning, advising Indian nationals to exercise caution while travelling to the war-torn country. The warning comes amid rising tensions between Israel and the armed political group Hezbollah.

On X, the official account of the Indian Embassy shared an advisory for Indian nationals. It reads, “In view of the recent developments in the region, all Indian nationals in Lebanon and those planning to travel to Lebanon are advised to exercise caution and stay in touch with the Embassy of India in Beirut through their email address: cons.beirut@mea.gov.in or emergency contact number +96176860128.”

According to Reuters

Tensions escalated after an Israeli drone strike killed two people and wounded three others in southern Lebanon on Monday, the Lebanese Civil Defense said.

The attack comes after a rocket attack killed 12 teenagers and children in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Israel and the United States blamed the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah for the strike.

The Iran-backed group denied responsibility for the attack.

Israel’s security cabinet on Sunday authorized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to decide on a response to the rocket strike on the Golan Heights.

Earlier in the day, flights were cancelled and delays were reported at Beirut airport. In addition to disruptions to operations at Lebanon’s Middle East Airlines, Lufthansa also suspended five routes to and from Beirut by its carriers, including Swiss International Air Lines, Eurowings and Lufthansa, until July 30 inclusive, “out of an abundance of caution.”

Since the start of the Israeli offensive in Gaza, exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah have increased on both sides of the border. The conflict has disrupted flights and transport in the region, including during reciprocal drone and missile attacks between Israel and Iran in April.
