California native Andrea Celeste revealed what surprised her most since moving abroad

She has gained 193,000 followers on TikTok through her popular content comparing and contrasting the two cultures.

America’s biggest ‘culture shock’ in the UK

  1. Highways, houses and cars are significantly smaller in the UK
  2. There are many variations of the English accent
  3. People dress more adaptably in the face of sudden rain

In the clip, which has been viewed 417,000 times so far, Andrea wasted no time and launched straight into her list: “One of the biggest culture shocks I experienced moving from California to England was how small everything was, like highways, houses, cars.” .

“Everything seemed a lot smaller, which is not surprising, because I come from a place where there are 10-lane highways and giant cars.”

She continued: ‘And obviously, the accents, but I was actually more surprised at how many different English accents there were.

“I think in the United States you grow up watching films made in England, and 99% of the time they are films from London or with more neutral accents.

“I actually went to North Yorkshire on my very first trip to England, so I had a huge surprise when they didn’t all look like Tom Hiddleston.”

But Andrea didn’t stop there.

“I mean, it’s the way people dress. This really caught me off guard, because it was just slightly different from how people dress in California.

“But you can definitely tell the difference – especially in footwear, because wearing thin fabric shoes like Vans and Converse is not as common, due to the unpredictable rain, which I learned on first day of college when I wore Toms, and they got completely soaked within the first 15 minutes of being outside.

More recently, she admitted the things that shocked her the most, including her thoughts on the English accent.

In the clip, Andrea wasted no time as she began: “One of the biggest culture shocks I experienced moving from California to England was how small everything was, like the highways, houses, cars.

She humorously referenced her soaked sneakers in the caption of her video, in which she wrote, “I learned the hard way in the third one,” with a laughing emoji.

Andrea’s video was quickly flooded with comments, with many people sharing their own observations.

One person wrote: “Everything is smaller, even though London is bigger than LA. »

Another commented: “OMG the size difference is huge!! A friend of mine is American and his house has two guest bedrooms, a master bedroom AND TWO EN-SUITE BATHROOMS, and apparently it’s AVERAGE?! All this on one level.

A third person added: “And I had culture shock because of how big everything is here in the US, compared to England.”

Someone else shared: “In America right now and it’s crazy how big everything is.”

One commented: “In the US for the first time as a Brit. I was literally shocked by the magnitude of it all.

Other followers divulged their thoughts on accents and even Andrea’s accent change during her time in the UK.

Dozens of viewers then flocked to share their own thoughts on the key differences between the countries.

One person commented: “That didn’t sound like Tom Hiddleston”, yeah we’re more Sean Bean/Mark Addy here lol. »

A second person noted: “It’s crazy that you adopted the British accent lol.”

Another wrote: “I can literally hear a little British accent from you. »

A fourth person commented: “WAIT. I thought you moved here from the UK?!? Mind blown.’

Some followers commented on the style differences.

One person wrote: “You’ll see endless Vans and Converse this summer. »

Another person added: “As a Londoner, the Converse spike was one of the first things I noticed when I went to New York! Converse, tote bags, and sportswear seemed popular.

One person suggested: “Get a shoe waterproofing spray when wearing fabric shoes like Converse, it makes a difference!” »
