American tried to bring coke to the isolated tribe: the cops

The latest foreigner known in visiting an isolated sentinel tribe on North Sentinel Island, the American missionary John Allen Chau, was killed by those he hoped to save. Thus, an American tourist who arrived on the island with a box of Coca-Cola and a coconut to offer, because tribute should consider himself lucky that he was arrested. Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov, 24, was caught on his return from the island, where he left his offers after failing to contact the tribe hostile to foreigners, the Telegraph Reports. He arrived on the Indian Island in the south of Andaman on March 26, about three days before leaving a beach in an inflatable boat equipped with an engine, according to Indian police.

Using GPS, Polyakov crossed a strait of 25 miles to reach North Sentinel Island, out of limits since 1996, on Saturday, then whistled for an hour to try to shoot the sentries, the police announced. They never appeared, so Polyakov briefly left his boat, withdrawn sand samples, recorded a video and submitted a box of coke and a coconut as offering, the police said. He then returned to South Andaman Island, where local fishermen alerted the police. The police, who filed a file against Polyakov for breach of the protection of indigenous tribes, said that the 24 -year -old had already tried to contact other Aboriginal tribes of the archipelago, including the Jarawa tribe on the island of Baratang in January.

Police said he had carefully planned his last trip by studying the sea conditions, tides and access points. He had also tried to spot the island of an inflatable kayak in October but was arrested by hotel staff, officials said, according to the New York Post. Caroline Pearce, the director of the Aboriginal Rights Group, Survival International, said that her efforts were “deeply disturbing” as well as “reckless and idiots”, risking her own life and those of the tribe who have no immunity to common external illnesses, according to the Telegraph. The police seized the boat, the camera and other Polyakov supplies and held it as an interrogation. “We get more details about him and his intention to visit the reserved tribal zone” and “trying to find where he had visited otherwise,” said a police representative.
