Indian police said on Thursday that she had arrested an American tourist who had fakes on a very limited island with a coconut and a diet coke box to a tribe intact by the industrial world.
Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov, 24, set foot in the limited territory of North Sentinel – which is part of the Indan Islands of India – in order to meet the Sentinel people, which would only be around 150.
All foreigners, Indians and foreigners are prohibited from traveling at less than 3 miles (5 km) from the island to protect indigenous peoples from external illnesses and to preserve their lifestyle.
“The American citizen was presented to the local court after his arrest and is now in pre -trial detention for a new interrogation,” the chief of police and Nicobar, Hgs Dhaliwal, told AFP.
The satellite photographs show an island of the slums of coral reefs – extending to some 6 miles at its widest point – with thick forest and white sandy beaches.
The Sentinelese made the headlines of international newspapers in 2018 after killing John Allen Chau, 27, an American missionary who was illegally landed on their beach.
Chau’s body was not found and there was no investigation into his death due to Indian law prohibiting anyone from going to the island.
India sees the larger Andaman and Nicobar Islands as strategically located on the main world shipping routes. They are closer to myanmar than continental India.
New Delhi plans to invest at least $ 9 billion (6.7 billion pounds sterling) to enlarge the naval and the basics, the accommodation of the troops, the port and the main city of the region.
Dhaliwal said Polyakov continued to denounce the shore of North Sentinel Island for about an hour to attract the attention of the tribe before leaving on the ground.
“He landed briefly for about five minutes, left the offerings on the shore, withdrawn from sand samples and recorded a video before returning to his boat,” said Dhaliwal. “An examination of his images of GoPro cameras showed his entry and landing in the restricted North Sentinel Island.”
The police said that Polyakov was arrested late on Monday, about two days after his return to the ground and had visited the region twice in recent months.
He first used an inflatable kayak in October 2024 but was arrested by hotel staff, police announced on Thursday. Polyakov made another unsuccessful attempt during a visit in January 2025.
This time, Polyakov used another inflatable boat with an engine to travel around 35 kilometers (22 miles) outdoors from the main archipelago.
The Sentinelese, whose language and customs remain a mystery for foreigners, avoid all contacts and have a hostile file to anyone who tries to get closer.
A photograph published by the Casons Indian Coastguard and Survival International two decades ago showed a feeling targeting an arc and an arrow on a passing helicopter.
The Indian authorities have continued all the inhabitants who helped attempts to enter the island and try to identify anyone who may have helped Polyakov.
The Andamans also house the Jarawa tribe of 400 people, which, according to activists, are also threatened by the contacts of foreigners. Tourists have previously welded local officials in order to spend time with Jarawa.
