An American woman says she was stunned to receive a speeding ticket after being caught by speed cameras she didn’t know existed.
Sophia, who goes by @sophiainsydney on TikTok and is originally from Los Angeles, shared a video explaining that she was caught driving 101 km/h in an 80 km/h zone in the Cross City tunnel of Sydney on May 18.
“As an American, I got a license here without taking any tests. I didn’t know there were like cameras for speeding tunnels,” she said.
“I was so focused on driving that I was trying to navigate where I’m going.
“Especially driving for the first time on the other side of the road…I’m really surprised this happened.”

The American expat says she was attending fashion week events and thought she was saving money by driving instead of Ubering, but instead ended up with a $295 fine.
“I thought I was saving money driving and not Ubering,” she said.
“I wonder if I should fight this because it’s my first time driving through the tunnel.
“The thing is, I drive better when there are other cars around me, because it shows me how fast I need to go.”
‘It’s kind of hard for me to register which side of the street I should be on and I don’t even look at the speedometer because I’m like focused on the road because I don’t want to crash into it the walls, you know what I mean.’

Online users were puzzled by the American’s confusion and even pointed out that footage from the tunnel appeared to show her driving in the middle of two lanes.
‘You should take a ticket. Not learning the rules of the road or not paying attention is no excuse,” one said.
“She’s even in the middle of two fucking lanes like I’m on my L’s and even I can drive better than that,” another said.
While one commenter said “So don’t speed up?” to which Sophia replied, ‘K Karen’.
The expat has had a turbulent time in the underworld, previously taking to TikTok to say she was kicked out of her apartment for not revealing she has a dog.
“My life has been the most unstable in recent weeks,” she explained. “I didn’t declare my dog because I think the rental market is so RIDICULOUS – and now I have to move,” she said.

At the time, the LA influencer also revealed that she had lost over $2,000 worth of jewelry since her last move and urged her followers to ensure their valuables are taped in a box at the instead of a place where an untrustworthy mover could enter.
She admitted to feeling extremely lonely and lost, especially being so far from home and family.
