American Football Team Quarterback Says He’s ‘Better Than Patrick Mahomes’

Patrick Mahomes threw a flag on the play.

Earlier Wednesday, flag football quarterback Darrell Doucette spoke to TMZ about how he would not only be a great choice for the U.S. flag football team at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, but he would also be a better signal-caller than the Chiefs star.

“At the end of the day, I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ,” he told the outlet. “I know he’s the best in the NFL right now, I know he’s more accurate, I know he’s got all these intangibles. But when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him.”

Later in the day, Mahomes lashed out at X, citing a video clip of Doucette with a GIF of rapper 50 Cent in which he said, “I’m like what he say to f**k me.”

Last November, Mahomes expressed interest in competing for Team USA when the Olympics come to the United States in four years.

“I really want to do it. But I’ve seen some of these guys play flag football. They’re a little faster than me,” he told reporters at the time. “I know there’s no linemen blocking for you. I’ll be 31, 32 years old.”

“So if I can still get around, I’ll try to get out and throw the ball, maybe in Los Angeles.”

As the quarterback of the United States National Flag Football Team, Doucette has helped the team win numerous titles, including the 2021 IFAF Men’s Flag Football World Championship, the 2022 World Games and the 2023 Americas Flag Football Continental Championship.

In this last tournament, he was named MVP.

Doucette later added to TMZ that he wasn’t trying to claim he was a better football player overall than the two-time All-Pro, but specifically in the flag version of the game, which features a smaller field.

“I’m not saying I’m a better player overall, but until he steps foot on a 5-on-5 court, I’m going to feel that way until proven otherwise! I’m a competitor and I need to be proven wrong,” he told the outlet. “It’s a totally different game.”

Doucette recently made headlines, telling the Guardian over the weekend that NFL players hoping to play for the Olympic team won’t have an easy time of it.

“We don’t think they’re going to be able to walk out there and make the Olympic team because of their name, right?” Doucette said. “They still have to go out there and compete.”
