American arrested for threatening Taylor Swift during concert in Germany | World News

An American man who made threats against Taylor Swift on social media was arrested before her first concert in the German city of Gelsenkirchen and will remain in custody until the end of his shows there, police said Thursday.

The 34-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was in possession of a ticket for Swift’s concert at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, according to a police statement. Due to concerns raised during initial investigations, he was apprehended during entry checks at the event.

Police found that the man had posted threats against Swift and her partner on social media, leading to his arrest following alerts from event organizers. The American pop star is scheduled to perform in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as part of her Eras tour. A local court ordered the alleged harasser to remain in custody until Saturday, according to police. Authorities have said that neither Swift nor the audience were in danger during Wednesday night’s concert, which drew around 60,000 spectators and ended peacefully.

Before the concerts, Gelsenkirchen temporarily renamed itself “Swiftkirchen” and honored Swift on a local “Walk of Fame” dedicated to notable figures. After Gelsenkirchen, Swift is scheduled to perform concerts in two other German cities, Hamburg and Munich.
