American Airlines plan bounces on London runway during storm: video

News

An American Airlines plane bounced off a London runway Wednesday as it battled strong gusts that nearly sent it flying back into the sky.

Thrilling video shows the Boeing 777 lurching from left to right a few hundred meters above the pavement at London Heathrow Airport as it attempts to land at 11:45 a.m. after a seemingly confident and effortless descent.

The shaking plane’s nose then straightens up to body level before bouncing straight into the air again, footage shared by Big Jet TV shows.

Somehow, the pilots managed to bring the massive plane back to the ground for a safe landing.

THE The 308-seat plane had battled strong crosswinds and thick fog caused by Storm Gerrit, a supercell thunderstorm that caused widespread flooding, ripped roofs off houses and killed several people across the UK.

Despite high winds – which reached 80 mph in some areas – the American Airlines plane was only 20 minutes late arriving at Europe’s largest airport, according to FlightAware data.

He had flown 6,000 miles and traveled nearly 11 hours from California when he encountered frightening turbulence.

No injuries associated with this terrifying landing have been reported.

However, Storm Gerrit would later force Heathrow to cancel 18 flights due to air traffic control restrictions on domestic routes. Flights to European cities like Barcelona and Berlin have also been affected.

The storm also caused significant disruption to rail service several hundred miles north of Scotland, where travel on some lines was suspended until authorities could carry out a full inspection of the network. A tree fell and hit the driver’s cabin of a train, but no one was injured.
