National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in an interview Sunday that the American people are better off and safer from threats today than they were four years ago.
Sullivan made the assertion, less than two weeks after an ISIS-inspired terrorist killed 14 people in an attack in New Orleans, during an interview on “State of the Union » from CNN with Jake Tapper.
Tapper asked Sullivan, “Where in the world could you point to and say that the United States is safer because of what we’ve done here?”
After addressing White House talking points about the administration’s foreign policy record, Sullivan said Americans are now in a better place.

“I think the American people are safer and the country is better off than it was four years ago,” he said. “And we turn all of that over to the next team, while keeping the engines of American power running, our economy, our technology, our defense industrial base, our supply chains. As a result, the United States is in a stronger and more secure position, and our competitors and adversaries are weaker and under pressure. I think this is the main transfer we will make to the incoming team.
