AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 12-Core APU Faster Than 20-Core 14700HX and 14-Core M3 Max in PassMark Benchmark

AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU has made its debut in the PassMark benchmark, delivering faster performance than Apple’s M3 and Intel’s 14700HX.

AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix” APU Delivers Strong Multi-Core Performance in PassMark, 28% Faster Than Its Predecessor

The flagship Ryzen AI 300 processor, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, has been showing up in various benchmarks and it seems PassMark is the latest one. The processor has made its first appearance in the latest tests which show solid performance compared to the competition, but before we get to the results, let’s take a quick look at the specs the chip has to offer.

The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU is part of the Ryzen AI 300 “Strix Point” family and features a 12-core, 24-thread die that features a four Zen 5 and eight Zen 5C configuration. This die runs at boost frequencies of up to 5.1 GHz, offers 36 MB of cache (24 MB L3 + 12 MB L2), and the Radeon 890M iGPU with 16 compute units or 1024 cores. So compared to the previous flagship, the Ryzen 9 8945HS, you get 50% more cores/threads, 33.3% more compute units, and 3.12x the NPU performance, which is a huge gain from one generation to the next.

As for performance, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU scored 4,213 points in single-core tests and 37,699 points in multi-core tests in PassMark. The processor is listed as the 12th fastest laptop processor in the PassMark database, so let’s see how the chip fares compared to other current-gen offerings:

As you can see, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is faster than the 14-core Apple M3 Max, 20-core Intel Core i7-14700HX, and even the 16-core Core Ultra 9 185H for laptops. AMD’s latest flagship, the Strix Point, also offers a 28% improvement over its Hawk Point predecessor, the 8945HS. It wasn’t mentioned whether the chip was running at its full 54W TDP or at a configured power level, but given these performance figures, we can expect a relatively solid laptop offering with a powerful and modern iGPU that has shown excellent performance in leaked benchmarks.

AMD’s first Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” laptops are expected to hit stores on July 28, so the launch isn’t far away. You can check out ASUS’ first laptops which are already listed and available for pre-order at select retailers.
