Rumor: AMD Ryzen 9000X3D with full OC support

Wccftech sources reveal significant changes in the upcoming X3D lineup.

As the launch of the Ryzen 9000 series approaches, information about Zen5 desktop processors is becoming more and more detailed. According to the report, the next generation of the X3D series, known as the Ryzen 9000X3D, will support overclocking, an interesting change from one of AMD’s most successful series.

The previous two generations of X3D, with the Zen3 and Zen4 architectures, did not support full overclocking. While there were optimization methods and the ability to choose overclocked memory, there was no easy way to increase frequencies or multipliers like on regular processors. AMD has always stated that overclocking can lead to instability, and the only way to maximize performance is through technologies like Precision Boost Overdrive, which was enabled on the 7000X3D series.

The next generation will overcome these limitations and should support full overclocking. This means that it will be possible to access CPU voltage or clock changes, which were not manually adjustable even on the Zen4 series.

With the next generation, AMD introduced some exciting new features for the Zen 5-powered Ryzen 9000X3D processors, but we managed to learn that among these features is full OC support. Yes, that’s right, it’s not just about PBO or CO tuning, AM5 platform enthusiasts will benefit from full overclocking support with the next generation 3D V-Cache processors .

It is mentioned, however, that while this option is supported, AMD could introduce safety measures to limit overclocking to safer values. Using the 3D V-Cache results in greater sensitivity to voltage variations.

The same media outlet also shared details regarding Zen5 memory support and overclockability. The new series is expected to consume less power and support improved overclocking for DDR5 kits. Based on preliminary data collected from qualification samples (which will be the same or better than retail units), the Ryzen 9000 series still targets DDR5-6000 memory as the sweet spot, but the upper limit will be increased to 6400 MT/s while maintaining a 1:1 FCLK (Infinity Fabric) to MCLK (Memory Clock) ratio. Additionally, they will support up to 8000 MT/s EXPO memory in a 1:2 ratio with 4-DIMM mode.

Support for AMD Ryzen 1:1 Ratio Memory (MCLK:FCLK)

  • AMD Ryzen 3000 “Zen 2”: DDR4-3800
  • AMD Ryzen 5000 “Zen 3” – DDR4-4000
  • AMD Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” Sweet Spot – DDR5-6000
  • AMD Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5”: DDR5-6000 (upper limit: 6,400 MT/s)

It is mentioned that the board partners are working on 9,000 MT/s and even 10,000 MT/s memory support, which would be possible with a 1:2 ratio. It seems that the days when Ryzen processors were unable to compete with Intel in terms of supporting high memory specifications may be over. This, combined with full overclocking support on the X3D series, could make Ryzen one of the most interesting updates to date.
