AMD claims to have broken another record with Threadripper 7000

At last month’s press event, AMD confirmed that its new HEDT platform can score 184,000 points in a popular benchmark.

QuasarZone reported that it attended the press event last month and saw a slide showcasing AMD’s claims about the Threadripper PRO 7995WX’s potential scores. The current world record at the time was 147,668 points, achieved using a dual EPYC platform with 192 cores. During the same event, AMD demonstrated that the Threadripper PRO 7995WX, featuring 96 Zen4 cores, had the potential to achieve a higher score of 148,000 points.

The AMD Overclocking team also presented two world records, which include air chamber/vapor powered cooling and later liquid cooling. Both set the bar higher at 161K and later 167K. During these tests, the Zen4-based processor reached temperatures above 106°C and a power output of 985W, almost fully utilizing the 1000W limit imposed by the AMD Ryzen Master software.

At the October event, AMD claimed that its processor could achieve even higher performance. Specifically, the processor has the potential to hit 184,028 points in the Cinebench R23 multi-core test, likely involving the use of liquid nitrogen or other exotic cooling methods. It should be noted that this achievement has not been officially confirmed and there are currently no submissions on the HWBOT website.

According to reviews, the 96-core Threadripper PRO 7995WX can score 118,000 points with air cooling and 148,000 with water cooling. This can go up to 177K points with liquid nitrogen. These values were shared by the Japanese publication MyNavi, which was unable to replicate AMD’s achievements.

Threadripper PRO 7995WX OC (Cinebench R23):

  • Air cooling: 118,642
  • Water cooling: 148,053
  • LN2: 177,050
  • AMD Claimed WR: 184,028

Of course, only overclockers and reviewers will attempt extreme overclocking with such an expensive processor. This SKU will cost a staggering $9,999 once it hits shelves, which should be tomorrow. There are a limited number of reviews available for this particular processor; However, one can always learn more by reading the reviews in our summary provided here.
