Amber Heard takes a break from social media as she prepares to confront her ex-husband Johnny Depp in court in a libel suit, and hopes that they will both eventually forget the past.
In a rare Instagram statement, posted on Saturday April 9, the 35-year-old Aquaman The actress wrote, “I will be offline for the next few weeks. As you may know, I will be in Virginia, where I will be facing my ex-husband Johnny Depp in court.”
In a 2018 Washington Post editorial, published two years after filing for divorce from Depp, Heard wrote that “two years ago I became a public figure representing domestic violence, and felt the full force of our culture’s anger for women who speak out. In March 2019, Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit over the article, which makes no mention of the actor.
“Johnny is suing me for an op-ed I wrote in the Washington Post, in which I chronicled my experience of violence and domestic abuse,” Heard wrote in his Instagram post. “I never named him, rather I wrote about the price women pay for exposing men in power. I continue to pay that price, but I hope that when this case ends I can move on to something else and Johnny too.”
