Allstate removes social media post of CEO’s controversial Sugar Bowl post after serious backlash

Allstate, the sponsor of Thursday’s Sugar Bowl contest between Notre Dame and Georgia, appears to have deleted CEO Tom Wilson’s post-terrorist attack message, which aired before the game and ignited a firestorm of online controversy.

Just before the game began, Wilson made a video statement in which he suggested that Americans have an “addiction to divisions” and must “accept people’s imperfections and differences.”

“Our prayers have gone out to the victims and their families,” Wilson told viewers. “We must also be stronger together by overcoming our addiction to divisions and negativity. Join Allstate as it works in local communities across America to amplify the positive, increase trust, and embrace people’s imperfections and differences. Together we win.

X users reacted viscerally to Wilson’s post, threatening to boycott and accusing the CEO of a tone-deaf and “soft” response from Wilson.

Morning revelry following New Year’s celebrations was shattered around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday morning when a driver drove his truck into the crowd, killing or injuring dozens of people. Then, the driver, identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, got out of the vehicle and opened fire on the police, injuring two law enforcement officers.

Din Jabbar was killed in the shootout with the police. Authorities also found an ISIS flag attached to Din Jabbar’s truck.

At least 14 people were killed in the Din Jabbar attack.

On Thursday, Allstate released a statement to Fox News Digital condemning the terrorist attack and attempting to clarify its CEO’s message.

“To be clear, Allstate CEO Tom Wilson unequivocally condemns this heinous act of terrorism and violence in all its forms,” the statement said. “We stand with the victims’ families, their loved ones and the New Orleans community. The reference to overcoming divisions and negativity reflects a broader commitment to fostering trust and positivity in communities across the country.
