Allen Lazard continues strong start to Jets training camp
Observations from the Jets’ training camp practice on Saturday.
The rebirth of Lazard
Allen Lazard’s training camp revival continued.
His bond with Aaron Rodgers, which dates back to their days with the Packers, has been on display throughout the first four sessions, and it continued Saturday in the first 11-on-11 period — when Lazard, with Rodgers struggling, veered toward the sideline and stomped both feet onside while recovering the ball.
He also caught two of Rodgers’ four completed passes in the ensuing seven-on-seven session.
Dropsy
Malik Taylor, who impressed Friday in training camp and is competing for a roster spot as a receiver, had a tough fall during a seven-on-seven period.
Caught my attention
Tempers flared in the fourth session of training camp, with a major scrimmage — which included offensive lineman John Simpson and pass rusher Jermaine Johnson — breaking out during an 11-on-11 session.
It didn’t take long for the players to be separated and normality to return.
“That’s what’s going to happen in camp,” right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker said. “It’s almost like it doesn’t happen in camp … you’re not really a passionate team. Just a little something.”
Rodgers Report
There were times when Rodgers and the offense got going again, and others when they struggled.
During an 11-on-11 period, Rodgers made just 1 of 4 shots, with a throw going over Garrett Wilson’s head in the end zone.
He started the day with a 2-on-2 in the team’s first period and was also sharp in a seven-on-seven period.
Injury Report
CB Brandin Echols has what Robert Saleh described as a rib contusion and will be re-evaluated Monday.
WR Xavier Gipson (lower-body injury) and OL Jake Hanson did not practice again.
Vera-Tucker participated in some team drills and will see her number of repetitions increase as training camp progresses.
