Alleged sexual assault by masked man investigated in Cambridge

State and local officials are investigating after being called to an alleged assault in progress in Cambridge Friday evening.

Police were called to Cambridgepark Drive around 9:20 p.m. Friday for reports of an assault in progress, a Cambridge Police Department spokesperson said in a statement Saturday.

The victim told police that his attacker was a masked man armed with a knife.

Police have inspected the crime scene, which they believe was in the restroom of a commercial building, and are searching for the suspect, according to the release.

Cambridge police are working with state police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office to gather evidence and identify a suspect. There will also be additional patrols in the area as a “precautionary” measure, Cambridge Police said.

The department said Sunday afternoon it was using “all means and resources” to investigate the reported assault.
