All eyes will be on Neeraj Chopra’s fitness as the reigning Olympic and world champion returns to action with the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland on Tuesday. Neeraj’s last competitive outing was at the Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar in May, where he won gold with a throw of 82.27m in difficult weather conditions.

He was supposed to participate in the Golden Spike in Ostrava towards the end of May but withdrew because he “felt something in my adductor (group of muscles located on the inside of the thighs)”.

With the 2024 Paris Olympics not far away, Indian fans are hoping that Neeraj has already recovered well and is ready to take on the challenge of competing against a star-studded field in Finland.

In a very long time, breaking the 90m mark won’t be on the minds of fans, but more importantly, they would want him to have a good outing so that he can get his rhythm back before the Olympics.

At the Paavo Nurmi Games, Neeraj will face 19-year-old Max Dehning of Germany, who has already crossed the 90m mark. Also at the Games are two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago.

After the Paavo Nurmi Games, Neeraj Chopra will participate in the Paris Diamond League on July 7.

Neeraj’s record at Paavo Nurmi Games:

2022: Silver medal in the throw of 89.30 m.

2023: Did not compete due to injury.

Live broadcast : Neeraj Chopra’s javelin throw event is scheduled at 9:45 pm IST. In India, it will be broadcast LIVE on Sports18 – 1 HD. Live streaming will be available on JioCinema.
