Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin, equaled Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record with her 894th goal after scoring the team of the Chicago Blackhawks twice on Friday.
With the renowned temple present, Ovechkin participated in the Friday evening competition needed three goals to break the record and two to link it.
The 39 -year -old man did not waste time climbing on the set, obtaining a flow back from Dylan Strome before shooting the circle only once to beat the Blackhawks Spencer Nightoff goalkeeper for his 893rd career goal at 3:53 a.m. from the first period.
“Oh yeah, everyone is working right now. Wayne is there, so yes, it’s a special moment,” Ovechkin told Monumental Sports Network, if he felt the atmosphere of the crowd.
The goal scored the 40th of the season for Ovechkin, becoming the first player in the history of the League with three campaigns of 40 goals at 35 and over.
For most of the game, it seemed that Ovechkin should wait to match Gretzky. A chance in the last minute of the second period had appeared as if it pulled it at the level of the historic record, but it was rightly missed.
A little more than six minutes after the start of the third period, Ovechkin equaled the historic brand, in one time, by John Carlson to attach the big one.
The game stopped temporarily, with the crowd of capital One Arena giving the Star of the Capitals a standing ovation. Following the goal, Ovechkin patinated his family, greeting them with High Fives. He then patinated to central ice and made a sign of the crowd.
He was also shown by waving Gretzky and kissing on his way.
A few minutes after the record, Gretzky congratulated Ovechkin for joining him in history.
“This is what the game is,” Gretzky told Monumental Sports Network Broadcast. “Alex was great for the match and great for Washington and great for his own country. It’s wonderful, I’m very proud of him.
“I am proud of what I have accomplished and that is what makes our game so wonderful. These are the great athletes we have and more importantly, the great people they are. ”
