Alex Murdaugh to be deposed in Mallory Beach lawsuit

Convicted double murderer and disgraced descendant Alex Murdaugh will once again face questions – this time over the hand of his slain son Paul in the death of teenager Mallory Beach.

On Monday, a South Carolina judge ordered the state Department of Corrections ‘to make defendant Alex Murdaugh available for deposition’ in his family’s 2019 boating accident wrongful death case. with his drunken son, Paul Murdaugh, driving. .

“The SCDC is specifically directed to provide the connection or means by which the parties may conduct the deposition virtually and also to simultaneously provide the means by which the parties may conduct the deposition in person, as determined by the parties,” wrote the judge.

The lawsuit claims Murdaughs and Parker’s Kitchen, the convenience store that sold alcohol to underage Paul, are responsible for the death of 19-year-old Beach.

Representatives of the chain store and the Beach family will have the chance to grill Murdaugh.

Paul, also 19 at the time, was caught in surveillance footage buying booze in Parker’s Kitchen using his older brother Buster’s ID just hours before he crashes the boat against a piling on the Archers Creek bridge.

All five passengers were violently ejected from the ship, but only Beach failed to make it to shore. His body was found a week later.

Lawyers for Parker’s Corporation argued earlier this month that they were not responsible for the tragic collision because they did not know Paul was underage and even claimed that the now deceased man had ” defrauded” the store by pretending to be his older brother.

Parker also asked to dismiss the case because “evidence shows Mallory Beach, an adult, knowingly put herself at risk of getting in a boat with visibly drunk Paul Murdaugh on a dark, foggy night.”

At the time of his murder in June 2021, Paul was facing charges of browsing under the influence causing grievous bodily harm and death. He had pleaded not guilty.

His father, Alex Murdaugh, was sentenced to two life sentences in March for shooting dead his wife Maggie, 52, and Paul, 22, at the family’s Moselle hunting lodge in June 2021.

Beach’s wrongful death lawsuit is just a drop in the bucket of cases piling up against the cold-blooded killer.

Murdaugh was charged with several new charges related to alleged tax evasion last month, in addition to nine counts of tax evasion.

Overall, the 54-year-old disbarred attorney faces several dozen charges related to alleged financial crimes in 19 indictments.

He is accused of stealing millions from his former law firm, his clients and the government.

Murdaugh is also in the process of appealing his murder conviction.

Beach’s civil case is scheduled for a mid-August trial date in Hampton County, but it’s not yet known when Murdaugh will be filed.
