Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is ready to take on the Kentucky Derby – his betting plans leaving Alex Cooper in shock.

Portnoy, who sold his media company Barstool for about $500 million in February last year before buying it back for $1, visited Churchill Downs with “Call Me Daddy” podcast host Cooper for Friday’s racing series during Derby Week.

Before the day began, Cooper could be seen questioning Portnoy about how much he planned to bet throughout the day in a video shared by Barstool on social media.

In the video, the influencer first picks up a briefcase belonging to Portnoy and points out its weight, with the latter claiming it contains sunglasses and “gaming” funds.

After being asked to bet $10,000 on a horse competing in Saturday’s derby, Cooper then asks Portnoy how much he plans to bet on Friday’s races.

“Hundreds of thousands,” replies the Barstool chef, leaving her in disbelief. “Yeah, a lot of money. »

Cooper then says, “I like the way you look, it’s just money…whatever?”

“Well, it’s like it’s my entertainment,” Portnoy responded. “People are doing other things and we’re playing, so we come and play.”

In another video shared by Portnoy, the two made bets together for a total of $9,000 split down the middle, as Cooper jokes, “I’ll never pay it back.”

Barstool took over Cooper’s hit podcast in 2017, streaming it for four years before putting pen to paper on a three-year deal worth $60 million with music streaming giant Spotify in 2021.

The Call Me Daddy podcast now has over two million followers on Instagram and just under 900,000 on YouTube, while also becoming the most listened to women’s podcast on Spotify since being signed by the company.

Portnoy, meanwhile, recently revealed he was spotted on a date with a 25-year-old blonde during Monday’s Celtics-Heat basketball game, admitting he “freaked out” after being filmed.
