Alcaraz vs. Djokovic: The numbers behind a blockbuster quarter-final

Djokovic (88.5%) and Alcaraz (85.3%) are among six players in the Open era to hold a Grand Slam win rate of at least 85%, along with Bjorn Borg, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Rod Laver.

Tuesday’s encounter at Melbourne Park will be their eighth career meeting. This will be their first match at the AO, and their first meeting that will take place earlier in a tournament than the semi-finals.

Four of their matches ended with a trophy at stake. The other three were semi-finals.

Djokovic holds the advantage, with four victories, the most recent of which came in the gold medal match at last year’s Paris Olympics. Two of Alcaraz’s three victories came in the Wimbledon final.

Alcaraz could become only the third player to beat Djokovic three times in a row at a Grand Slam tournament, after Nadal and Stan Wawrinka.

However, the Spaniard is yet to beat Djokovic on hard court. This match will see the two active players with the best surface winning percentages in majors face off (Djokovic 89.1%, Alcaraz 82.4%).
