Alan Shearer thinks that Rasmus Hojlund is a damaged player ‘after the attacker again fought in the 1-0 defeat of Manchester United at home against the wolves on Sunday.
Hojlund, 22, arrived for 73 million pounds from Atalanta in 2023 and scored 10 league goals in his first season at Old Trafford, but the goals dried this quarter.
He found the net only three times in the Premier League, with only one of these goals in 2025, and he was transported after 70 minutes on Sunday after another ineffective display which saw him waste several chances.
The legend of the Premier League Shearer looked closely and pronounced an overwhelming verdict on the match of day 2 when he revealed the errors that Hojlund always makes.
“I watch a damaged player in Hojlund,” said Shearer. “I think he was not ready and is not ready to direct the line in a club like Manchester United.
“Three goals in the Premier League, and at the minute, I see a player who does not really want to enter it.
Rasmus Hojlund failed to score again while Man United was beaten by the Wolves on Sunday

The Danish striker was kept silent by the wolves before being removed after 70 minutes

Alan Shearer said in the match of day 2 that Hojlund looks like a damaged player ” ‘
“It may be a second too early or a second too late, and his timing is false. I think there is no doubt that he (suffers from) a crisis of confidence.
Despite his shortcomings this season, Hojlund has retained his place as an attacker of United first choice for the majority of the campaign under Ruben Amorim in front of Joshua Zirkzee and Teenage Wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin.
Shearer has expressed a certain sympathy for Hojlund when he continues not to be expectations after United spent him two years ago, but suggested that United will have to dive on the transfer market for a no. 9 more established this summer to mitigate the burden of the Danish striker.
“It was put in a really difficult situation in a club where unless you are exceptional, to lead the club of the football club, you must be really talented,” added Shearer.
“He is not at the stage of his career where he should lead the line. I’m not saying there is no good player in there, I think there is a good player in there.
“But the pressure that concerns him in terms of doing what he cannot do and also the price, he is not yet ready to direct the line.”
United has now lost 15 championship games this season, with Pablo Sarabia’s free kick sealing the three points for the Wolves shortly after the replacement of Hojlund.
The men of Amorim are 14th in the table, only two points above the 17th West ham, and are the lowest sixth markers of the division.
