Alameda County prosecutor search: 15 candidates apply to replace former prosecutor Pamela Price

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — After an unprecedented election to recall Alameda County’s district attorney in November, the race is on to select a new prosecutor.

Fifteen people filed to become Alameda County’s next district attorney before the Jan. 6 deadline. So now the Board of Supervisors has a full slate of candidates to consider after former DA Pamela Price was recalled by voters last November.

Brenda Grisham, senior manager of Safe Alameda for Everyone, said, “Over the next month, we will see people who have applied be reviewed to see who is most qualified for the position.

Chris Moore is behind the Recall DA Pamela Price movement. “We’ve interviewed a lot of them, probably 10 or 11 of these candidates, and there’s a large pool of candidates for supervisors to choose from,” Moore said.

They include nine current and former Alameda County prosecutors and attorneys from neighboring counties.

Things will move quickly with the schedule calling for the Board of Supervisors to select finalists next week and then to conduct public interviews with at least three finalists the week of January 20. By the end of the month, they will select a new AD. who will be sworn in on February 4.

“375,000 people voted for change and they need to listen to the people. It’s not really about what they want to see, it’s about everyone,” Grisham said.

“So someone who can come in and rebuild this office and run this office, and a very big criteria as well is that they will have to run again in 18 to 20 months by November 2026 and someone who is eligible.” ,” Moore said.

It’s a big challenge. Those who worked to get the previous prosecutor recalled say they are hoping for someone who will hold criminals accountable and respect victims’ rights, and in doing so, restore public safety to Oakland, impacting residents and business owners.
