Aimee Lou Wood on the final death of `White Lotus ” from Chelsea

Spoiler alert: This story contains spoilers for the final of season 3 of “The White Lotus”, now streaming on Max.

Death came for Chelsea.

In the final of season 3 of “The White Lotus”, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) was confronted with the third and last premonition of the saying “The bad luck comes to three” after it was taken in the cross of cross during a shooting between the bodyguards of Rick (Walton Goggins) and Sritala (Lek Patravadi) at the station.

Throughout this season of the show created by Mike White, Chelsea had warned Rick that something bad was going to happen, especially after learning that he was in Thailand to face the owner of White Lotus, Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn), who would have murdered his father. (Rick ends up having a father of “Star Wars” reveals on Jim in the last episode.)

Chelsea had already barely escaped death not one, but twice, during her vacation anything. First of all, a masked man pointed out a weapon on her while stealing the shop with white lotus. Then, during a snake show, one of the poisonous offers bit his leg. “It could be a shit of” final destination “, says Chelsea in episode 4 after the two experiences. “Like, death comes for me.”

After leaving Chelsea behind to embark on his quest for revenge in Bangkok – where he finally refrains from killing Jim, pushing him instead of leaving his chair – Rick returns to the station and finds his girlfriend on the beach. At dinner, Chelsea told Rick that she was never too concerned about her return to her, citing the Latin sentence Amor Fat (Translation: “A love of fate”).

“It means you have to kiss your spell, good or bad. Whatever, it will be, ”she said to Rick. “And at this point, we are linked, so if a bad thing happens to you, it happens to me.”

This expression has indeed sealed Chelsea and the fate of Rick, because they are both killed the next day after Rick shot Jim, who had visited his own station to take a photo with the TV star Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan).

In the morning after the final broadcast, Wood spoke with Variety About the death of Chelsea, the relationship of her character with Rick and what she was originally supposed to say in these last moments.

When did you say that Chelsea would be one of the deaths of season 3?

In fact, I was told in my recall, so it is how long I have it. Honestly, I cannot stop talking to all those who ask me questions, because it is like a burst of dam.

In my first hearing, I made the scene where Rick and Chelsea – she says: “Get a gentleman’s face”. And the other I made was the “Scorpion, you are so secret.” Then in my second hearing, they gave me new scenes, and one of the scenes was: “I think we are going to be together forever, right?” I read it and went: “Oh.” And I did not have the other script, I had nothing else except for this scene, but I am just said: “It’s Chelsea.” My whole image of her has changed because in the first series of scenes, I said to myself: “Oh, they are vibrations of sugar dad.” And then this one, I said to myself: “It’s a love story. Oh my God, it’s a tragic love story. It makes me love him even more. She really loves him.” And I leave: “Oh my God, but she dies. She dies! She is Ophélie.” I became really emotional in the scene, and Mike intuated my intuition that I knew.

Were you able to keep his fate secret?

One of my friends knew it, because he is my best friend, and we also live together. I accidentally left aside me dead, basically – me with the blood on me. And he said, “Why did you leave them on the washing machine? Oh my God, I just saw the most painful thing!” And then he was with me last night, and we were holding out for the whole projection. He almost must have spaced a little because there are so many of me in Chelsea, so it’s so deeply personal to watch me go. And Leslie (bibb) was like: “I can’t watch you die. I don’t look at him.” And she didn’t look.

You have this heartbreaking expression on your face when you look at Walton Goggins in its last moments. Have there been any discussions about the fact that Chelsea speaks to Rick, or has she always been supposed to die in silence?

She was going to say something about “bad things that happened in three” originally, then Mike got rid of this. I was so happy that he did it, because the silence is really heartbreaking. She speaks so much and the words are her armor. Sometimes she speaks so that she doesn’t have to be vulnerable – words and aphorisms and astrology and currencies. Then, at that time, she cannot speak. And there is nothing that Rick would be more like that for her to be a machine gun asking her a lot of questions – for her to talk about astrology. He wants to have a pain in her head. He wants to hear him say: “You are so pretty! You are so pretty!” He wants it, and let’s go. She will never speak again. What was so irritated, he would give her everything now.

I think it was perfect that she does not speak, because for once, he makes the damn speak. And that’s how it should have been. If they could meet somewhere in the middle, it would have been magnificent.

What is happening through Chelsea’s mind in these last moments? Do you think she was angry with Rick, or did she forgive her?

I don’t think she was angry with him. I would have liked her to have it, because I think that if she was angry with him, she would not have followed her in danger. It is Amor Fat. Because she says: “It’s my spell, and I kiss her, good or bad. If a bad thing happens to you, Rick, it happens to me too, because we are connected now.” In a way, that’s what she wants, which is disturbing but also magnificent.

His death campaign and his vital strength are just as large. If she had just let her vital force be a little larger than her death reader, she would probably have taken off and would have picked up. But she just proves herself at that time. She has a very strong unconscious conduct, and I think she has proven itself by being like: “I said that we were cosmic feelings. I said that I would follow you in the next life. And I will prove it.” Then she enters the shooting line; It was an accident that she was struck, but she does not leave the danger zone, right? She sees Rick shoot Jim and she remains motionless. She has just seen that her boyfriend, the love of her life, is a killer – and she doesn’t get away from it.

People are so nasty about Rick, and as they should be. It is not nice to see someone being mean with a ray of sunshine, but it is crazy. She is as crazy as him. Her God is her own pain, and she made her God him. Both are crazy. I love them so much, but they are crazy, and they die because they are crazy. They don’t die because it is a love story. They die because they are crazy.

Do you consider their relationship as toxic or-how do you see it?

I think it’s even post-toxic. It almost closes the loop to be very pure, because I do not think there is maliciousness. I think that for something to be a toxic relationship, there must be a kind of control. There is a dynamic of power. There is this, there is one who – and there is in Rick and Chelsea. But there are nor either, because they are both so voluntary. It is almost as if it was so crazy, that it cannot even be judged by other people. It can no longer even be judged by these standards, because it is so beyond. He gets what he wants, who is a revenge, and she gets what she wants, what is him, right?

They both get what they want, but both want really destructive things. But I would say it is self -destruction. I don’t think Rick is trying to destroy Chelsea, and I don’t think Chelsea is trying to destroy Rick. I think they are both trying to destroy themselves.

What was your point of view on Rick bringing Chelsea to Thailand in the first place, knowing that he had ulterior motives that could endanger them both? Do you think Chelsea should have left him?

Chelsea has a responsibility for herself and she does not want to be responsible. She makes the choice, and she has the choice – as much as she says that she does not say it, and that it is determined and it is fate. And as much as Rick says that he has no choice – he must go and face this type – they both have the choice. And Chelsea chooses to stay.

Also, has Rick brought him to Thailand? From the start, he said: “Go”. And it is like: “Then we go here, then we go to Mexico, then we go here.” She goes wherever he’s going. I strongly doubt that Rick said to himself: “Chelsea, come to Thailand with me. I really want you to come with me in this quest for revenge.” I think he said, “I have to go to Thailand”, and she says: “Well, I come with you. I go wherever you go. ”

I saw people like “Rick should never have brought Chelsea”, but Chelsea has her say too. And Rick’s passivity is part of the problem. What will he do? Will he make her go up and put it in a car and return it safe? She would go out at the other end of this car and return directly. That’s what she is.

Many fans have estimated that the prefiguration of “bad luck came in three” was too predictable for a Mike White show, and expected a red herring. What is your answer to this?

This is why it is so intelligent. Because he made this double red herring. Like: “Oh, that’s not it, because it’s too obvious.” He actually threw people from the smell. And then he left: “Haha, no, I do that.” He made a double maneuver there. So I think it’s actually Mike really intelligent, and also give Chelsea a noble end. She is sort of rejected several times as being stupid and stupid – and she was right. So everyone should have listened to Chelsea. For me, I think Mike gave Chelsea the status of the Oracle – that she was right. In fact, I think it’s beautiful that it does that, because it is like: “Let Chelsea be the mystique that she thinks she is.”
