The Trump administration plans to revise the regulations established by the Biden administration which would limit the number of artificial intelligence chips that countries can buy in the United States
The regulations, which were to enter into force on May 15, were designed to limit the progress of AI in certain nations – “unreliable actors” – by emphasizing the guarantee that these chips do not go to China. Called “AI dissemination”, the regulations were controversial.
The chip giant ai nvidia corp. called the movement “unprecedented and erroneous”. Microsoft Corp. and Oracle Corp. Nor were not in love with the rule, saying that it would hinder commercial opportunities abroad without achieving its planned goal: to harm China.
“Biden AI’s rule is too complex, too bureaucratic and hampered American innovation,” said a spokesperson for the trade department. “We will replace it with a much simpler rule that triggers American innovation and ensures the domination of the American AI.”
News will be a boon for Nvidia and other American technological companies whose activity depends on the sales of fluid fleas in other countries. As soon as the plan was announced, Nvidia’s shares increased by 3%, but then dropped to 0.7%. The company will always face tight export controls, as evidenced by the costs of $ 5.5 billion with which it was struck for the sale of advanced fleas in China.
“We welcome leadership and the new administration management on AI policy,” said a spokesperson for Nvidia. “With the AI dissemination rule revoked, America will have a unique opportunity to direct the next industrial revolution and create well-remunerated American jobs, build new infrastructure provided by the United States and relieve trade deficit.”
The Commerce Department explained that the level rule could be completely removed, the caller “inapplicable”. He would have placed 17 countries on the first level, which could receive an unlimited number of fleas. At the second level, 120 nations would each receive a ceiling on flea imports. The level three countries – China, Russia, Iran and North Korea – were to be completely blocked.
It is reported that the current administration plans to replace this with individual agreements between each nation, while introducing a global license regime. There will be upcoming sales talks in which countries will be able to negotiate for better prices if they agree to maintain fleas restrictions.
