Initially, Pierre Daniellot, 22, was disqualified from stages 2 and 3: the skipper of Figaro Team Vendée Formation had thus demoted from 9th to 28th place in the general classification. After his first hearing, the jury estimated that “given the limited number of files downloaded, one in England, the other in Vendée and without proven proof that he had a telephone on board, the sanction is less severe. »
New investigations, new elements
His training partner, Benoit Tuduri, 29, was immediately excluded from the race for having downloaded GRIB files: he had taken a SIM card, which is strictly prohibited by the regulations.
In the last 48 hours, things have evolved and the case of Pierre Daniellot, whose traces seemed suspicious, was studied a second time, as confirmed by Georges Priol, president of the jury: “There were investigations underway and there were had a reopening of the instruction following new elements which appeared after the work of Yann Chateau (race director). He looked at the traces and, let’s say, the story was no longer the same…”
“He also cheated”
The jury therefore questioned Pierre Daniellot a second time. “I can just tell you that history has changed enough for us to change our minds too. He also cheated, so he is excluded,” adds the president of the jury who is in the process of finalizing the reports for the FFVoile.
According to our information, Daniellot did not, however, use a SIM card, unlike Tuduri. In both cases, the skippers broke rule 69 (damage to the image of the sport) of World Sailing, the international federation.
Disciplinary Commission
The reports from the president of the jury will be placed on the desk of the president of the FFVoile, Jean-Luc Denéchau, who will then refer the matter to an independent disciplinary commission. It takes ten weeks for the case to be judged and the sanctions imposed. The two sailors, entered in Class40 in the next Transat Jacques Vabre, are at great risk: this ranges from license suspension for a fixed period to suspension for life.
