Jake Stringer has lifted the lid on his exploration of the Islamic faith and how he now regularly attends mosques around Melbourne, as the Essendon forward enjoys a scintillating start to the season.

A week after being embarrassed by Port Adelaide, the Bombers were ready to fight back in a 15.6 (96) to 9.13 (67) victory in a spirited contest at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Friday night.

Stringer, 29, kicked two goals to continue his excellent form in the 29-point win over the Bulldogs.

Seven reporter Mitch Cleary revealed after the match that Stringer’s form coincided with his exploration of the Islamic faith.

Jake Stringer (pictured celebrating his goal against the Bulldogs) explained how he is exploring a new religious faith.

“Like anything, once you start you’re open to different paths,” Stringer told Seven.

“That’s what I’m doing right now. It’s just something that interests me. I go to Daurah almost every week and really enjoy it.

“(I learned) that there is more to life than everyday life, which is good.

“I’m healthy, I’m doing well and I’m enjoying my time on and off the field, which is the most important part.”

This year, Stringer’s goal celebration involved him pointing to the sky, which he revealed was linked to faith.

“Yes, it is (related to Islam),” Stringer confirmed.

“It’s more about brotherhood.

“I ran with it the first week and stuck with it ever since. That’s literally it and I’ll probably stick with it for the rest of the year.

Stringer fasted for part of Ramadan this year with former Bomber Adam Saad, who is a Muslim player.

“Saady has been great,” Stringer said.

“I spoke to him several times during Ramadan and (he) offered me advice.”
