Afghan military helicopter crashes in Afghanistan, killing at least one, Taliban says

ISLAMABAD– An Afghan military helicopter crashed in Ghor province in western Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing at least one person, the Taliban Defense Ministry said.

The MI-17 crash was caused by a technical problem, according to a press release.

The helicopter was on a rescue mission after a vehicle carrying civilians plunged into a river near the town of Feroz Koh, the provincial capital of Ghor, the ministry said in a post on social media platform .

Twelve passengers were injured in the accident, according to the press release. The crew attempted to make an emergency landing but the helicopter hit a wall and crashed, the statement added.

The statement did not identify the person who died in the accident or say how many people were on board.

Images published on X show the crash site on the banks of a river, where dozens of people gathered to try to help survivors.
