Richard Chamberlain, an actor who started playing a television doctor and became a mini-series maestro, died on Saturday, according to his publicist. He was 90 years old.
Chamberlain died in Hawaii in complications following a stroke, said publicist Harlan Boll in a press release. The awarded star “Thorn Birds” would have been 91 on Monday.
Chamberlain, a triple winner of the Golden Globe, has worn many hats over the years – actor, singer, soldier, painter, author – but he first took importance and cemented his heart of heart playing a beautiful young doctor in the 1960s series, “Dr Kildare”.
The series was broadcast on NBC between 1961 and 1966. In 1963, Chamberlain won a Golden Globe for the best star on male television for his performance as Dr Kildare.

Chamberlain also played the role of Jason Bourne in the first iteration on the screen of the franchise “Bourne Identity”, appearing in the TV mini-series in 1988. He then played in several films and TV movies throughout the 1990s, including “Birds of Prey” and “The Lost Daughter”.
Through the aughts, Chamberlain appeared as a star guest on many modern sitcoms and television comedies, including “Will and Grace”, “The Drew Carey Show” and “Desperate Housewives”.

In addition to a brief career as a recording artist, Chamberlain has played several memorable stage roles over the years, including a race as Henry Higgins in “My Fair Lady” and a brief passage to Broadway opposite Mary Tyler Moore in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, which closed in the sees.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Chamberlain grew up in Beverly Hills with her parents and older brother Bill before winning a baccalaureate in arts from Pomona College, noted Boll’s declaration.
After graduating, Chamberlain joined the American army and served 16 months in Korea, where he obtained the rank of sergeant.
Chamberlain is survived by his longtime partner Martin Rabbett.
“Our beloved Richard is with the angels now. He is free and hovering over these relatives in front of us,” Rabbett told CNN in a statement on Sunday. “To what extent we were blessed to have experienced such an incredible and loving soul.”
