A Palestinian-born volunteer in the Grenfell Tower building fire has been found guilty of stirring up racial hatred after accusing Jews of setting the fire.

Tahra Ahmed, 51, a pro-Palestinian campaigner, called the tragedy that killed 72 Londoners a ‘Jewish sacrifice’, in a Facebook post just four days after the fatal blaze, earning her condemnation by a jury at the Old Bailey for “incitement to racial hatred” against Jews twice on Facebook.

Ahmed, from Tottenham, claims she was a volunteer at the scene of the fire, saying in the caption of a Facebook video of the fire according to the BBC: “I was at the scene, at the protest and at the community meetings and met many victims.

The activist, who was a regular face of the Grenfell protests, went on to remark, “Look at the pictures of people trapped in hell with flames behind them. They were burned alive in a Jewish sacrifice”.

Scotland Yard, the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police, found a second anti-Semitic post from Ahmed, which was included in his incitement conviction.

According to a report by The temperature“Jews have always been the ones behind the ritual torture, crucifixion and murder of children, especially young boys, as a way to atone for their sins in order to be allowed to return to Palestine”.

Ahmed maintained that the comments she made were not anti-Semitic, saying they were merely political in nature. This excuse, however, did not convince the jury and she was convicted of inciting racial hatred and will be sentenced on February 11, 2022.

The activist appeared to show no remorse for his comments in the courtroom and at one point during his trial tried to justify his remarks by suggesting that Jews were involved in human sacrifice.

“The Jews – that’s a particular group, I call them the cabal, I call them Talmudic, I call them Zionists. … There is the Talmud that talks about sacrificing children,” she told the court.

On June 14, 2017, the Grenfell Tower building in North Kensington, London, caught fire after a faulty fridge-freezer started the blaze. Due to the type of cladding used on the building, the fire quickly engulfed the tower and it burned for approximately 24 hours before firefighters could bring it under control.

The death toll is thought to be at least 72, but due to the burnt nature of the remains, police initially struggled to give an exact number.

Breitbart News reported in 2017 that Ahmed had previously made other anti-Semitic comments online, including a post in which she wrote, “Hitler and the Germans were the victims of the Jewish plot to destroy Germany.”

The aid worker also called the Grenfell tragedy a “holocaust”.

Ahmed’s conspiracy theory is apparently based on his false belief that Grenfell Tower was owned by Jews.

“Grenfell is owned by a private Jewish developer, as are the twin towers. I wonder how many Goldmans [Goldman Sachs,] is about to win in the most expensive real estate location in the world [Kensington]“, she wrote at the time of the tragedy.

In addition, The temperature reported that Ahmed used to promote anti-Semitic conspiracies and was Britain’s “main proponent of the conspiracy theory that 9/11 was faked by Jews”.

The prosecution of Ahmed is an interesting development in the prosecution of hate crimes in Britain. The prosecution chose not to prosecute Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) chairman Nazim Ali after he made similar remarks at an anti-Israel rally in 2017.

“Let’s not forget that some of the biggest companies that supported the Conservative Party are Zionists. They are responsible for the murder of the people of Grenfell, in these Grenfell Towers, the Zionist supporters of the Conservative Party,” the IHRC chairman said at the time.

Piers Corbyn, a prominent anti-lockdown campaigner – who was also arrested on anti-Semitism charges after distributing leaflets comparing the rollout of the vaccine to Auschwitz – attended a protest outside the Old Bailey in support of Ahmed.

Piers is the brother of Jeremy Corbyn, a former far-left Labor Party leader. In November 2019, Corbyn was condemned by Ephraim Mirvis, Britain’s chief rabbi, for allowing the “poison” of anti-Semitism to take root in the Labor Party under his leadership.
